Final day

So we are down to just the one lesson left to perfect our video. We spent todays lesson still without our lip syncing in the video! What are we thinking at the moment - O GOD! We originally had a few runs of the song for our lip syncing but after viewing it again decided that it would just not work. So Friday morning, is another morning of filming. With nothing much to work with for the lesson we decided we would pick out our best piece of film and were we already had some small pieces of lip syncing and fitted them together. We set up our finalised introduction to the song and have left ourselves gaps to include the lip syncing.

We have faith and belief in ourselves and we are sure that we can still pull off a fantastic video.

Roughcut Feedback

Our feedback was infact much more positive than we had predicted. We did have a very consistent negative referral of our lip-syncing, which we had guessed would happen. Our positive feedback came mainly around our camerawork and mise-en-scene.

The most astonishing selection of feedback was from group 47. It completely contradicted what everyone else said. We feel that they were not watching properly.

Feedback from the groups:

Group 44

+ No lip syncing
+ Fits the genre well
+ A variety of shots
+ Good use of locations
+ Got into character

Group 43

+ Location works with music
+ Movement of camera in car makes it look exciting
+ Integration of clips makes the audience want to watch more
+ Lip syncing doesn't work in some places
+ Performance is interesting to watch

Group 48

+ Lip syncing out of time
+ Genre works well
+ Good camera movement
+ Good characters and location (clothes)

Group 47

+ Bad lip syncing
+ Good costumes and location
+ Try and learn the words
+ Lack of storyline - bit boring
+ Variety of camera angles needed

Group 46

+ Gaz is a lanky streak of piss
+ Shots are good , but don't know the words
+ Lip syncing needs some practice
+ Good car shots

ROUGH CUT!

We are going to need to make a whole host of changes for our final viewing.

*We are going to need to re-shoot the footage of our main vocalits from the gangsters and geeks. Unfortunetly for the rough cut our main vocalists had not learnt the song properly.

*We are going to need to change location A as the library we were currently using made it impossible for us to get the relevent footage and the time scale we had was very challeging to insure all the footage was completed to the nessesary standard needed to obtain a plausable grade

Animatic

This is our animatic.

It shows the begining 28 seconds introduction set and goes through around 20 seconds of the first verse. The first 14 seconds of the animatic shows the constant switch between the gangsters and the geeks in the library. This is to give an introduction to the characters and shows a build up of tension within the music beat. It shows the gangsters getting gradually closer to the library door, whilst the geeks are seemingly unknown to this and are just getting on with their reading etc. We will use parallel editing to create this effect in the video.

We are aiming to get the timing correct so that as the song becomes alive and energetic, to the same point as where the gangsters have reached the library doors. This then becomes similar to the first 14 seconds where parallel editing is used still to switch between the geeks and gangsters. This will continue to about 21/22 seconds in where we will have a shot of the gangsters and geeks who have come to a point of meeting. We will then use the 6 seconds before the vocals begin, to have a 2 seconds sot of each the gangsters, the geeks and then both groups together in a shot. In each of these shots the actors will be pulling a stereotypical pose of their group.

The vocals then begin and the camera will concentrate on the geek vocalist who will be rapping the song. This becomes different shots of weird things that are basically taking the mickey of the song, the unusual twist.

Music Video 2006 - Alfie

This is a good choice of song. The genre is blues/rap. The song is very bubbly and bouncy.

The settings are very effective in using them to tie in with the song. For example the use of the job centre and the bedroom as the vocalist says her brother is in his bedroom smoking weed. This gives an image portraying the theme they are presenting.

There is a good use of parallel editing in this music video. It is very good in moving between shots, it is not jumpy and is fluent. There is a use of split screen. This is used to good effect to show different shots at one time.

The camerawork is incredibly variated throughout the entire video. One shot is not held for more then 3 seconds. The video has shots from a variety of high and low angles, and long and short distances. These show the variations.

Special effects include the use of animation using the disney film bambi. There is also a good use of speeding up as 'Alfie' walks into the job centre.

The performances in this video are of a proffesional quality. We think that the vocalist standing in the window naked is a show of this and there braveness to perform any shot that is needed. This shows their courage and willingness to pull out all stops to create a good video.

IDEAS FOR SECOND VERSE

We switch from the library, the geeks territory to a run-down park/building (TBC) where the gangsters hang out. the idea between this change is two show the contrast between the two different social styles. The geeks will enter lead by main vocalist and the gangsters will be positioned on and around a bench. There will be parralel editing once again to show the build up of the two meeting. The main geek vocalist will open the verse by rapping at the gangsters and the geek dressed as Mary Popins will be standing behind waving his umbrella smiling broadly. The other geeks will be dressed in army costumes holding fake plastic guns, pretending to shoot eachover. The main gangster vocalist (Darren Pateman) will stand up unimpressed by the geeks attemps to rap and will rap out a line of the second verse aimed at the GV. The gangster on the bench will stand up all dressed in bling and get out their flick knifes (Prop Knifes will have retracktable blades to insure safety) pointing them at the Geeks.

Locations

Beginning - Library (In & Out), Green but not confirmed ?

Chorus - TBC

First Verse - Library

Second Verse - Rundown place - alleyway, park ?

Third Verse - TBC

First Verse

Coming into the first verse we will have our main geek vocalist sitting in the library with two companioins. There will be other geeks scattered in various places amongst the library shooting area. This area will include tables and books and each geek has a stack of books placed infront of him on the desk.

The main gangster vocalist will enter with two companions - dressed simliarly.

Whilst the remaining 12-14 seconds of Wiley speaking the lyrics we will film our 3 gangsters walking from outside the library into the area where the geeks are sitting. We will use parallel editing to switch every 2 seconds between the geeks and the gangsters until they come to meet and it leads into the first verse. When the gangsters enter the library at roughly 10 seconds the next shot of the main geek vocalists will be him looking up as the gangsters enter, then the gangsters do a gangster sign and then the next shot is the geek gets up from his seat and raps.

Beginning Idea

The song has a 14 second introduction of just Wiley speaking lyrics. We have come up with an idea to film still shots of the two social class differences. This will be of them holding poses whilst the camera pans in and out. For the geeks our preferred location would be a library and for the gangsters we are yet to decide a location. We will take roughly 7 shots of each group and each time with a different camera angle and different pose from the group. This introduces our two main vocalists and back-up singers. When we put this into the video we want to use a split screen to show each of the two groups in their social locations and use a technique to show the contrast in lifestyles. When one side is panning in the other side is panning out so that the audience do not have to look at two things at once. This will also help to stop it looking really quick and out of place.

White And Nerdy

This song is a comical version of Ridin' Dirty by Chamillionaire. We aim to do something similar to this video in our own. Obviously we can't change the words as Weird Al Yankovich have done in this video. However we aim to get the same effect of their being some 'geeks' and 'gangsters' in the video.

Bow E3 Song

This is the song we are doing.

Initial Ideas

Our initial ideas for this video, are to go completely against the stereo-typical view of how this video should actually be and create an abnormal video where instead of the actors/extras are 'gangsters' and make them more 'humanal' if thats best put. Another idea was to involve a fight scene of some sorts where the camera would be moved in and out of the fight, to give it a more depth effect of feeling of being in the fight. Another idea was to have the characters dressed as 'geeks' trying to act as 'gangsters' to give the video a mere taking the mickey effect and make it humerous.

These are basic ideas and are going to be developed over the next couple of lessons.

Changing Over

Unfortunately we chose the same song as another group so we've had to chose another song to create a video for. We have chosen Bow E3 by Wiley. The genre of this song is grime. We can already say that this problem has severly affected our work and progression as we have had to restart and rethink nearly all of our planning.

Thursday, 13 September 2007

We are going to side the two sides of the vocalists too female and male sides. We are then going to make the video into a battle between both sides of gender.

Our aim is to create a video that is similar to N-dubz vs NAA. A more aggressive tone.

Modernising

We have decided that we are going to modernise the song in our video. Our aim is to give it a more lively and modern twist. Our basis of this is we should aim to move forward in life not backwards. We intend to stage it as a two-way arguement between genders. There will be numerous locations of shooting footage of our vocalists argueing. while the two main vocali

Casting

Over the last week we have created our cast list. This includes a female and a male vocalist. There are also extras that have been included for the shots and back up singing. We currently have 6 participants for our video.

Synopsis

Last week when we chose our song we instantly had a flurry of ideas that we had between us to tie in with the song. Effectively we have decided that without a shadow of a doubt the best way to get marks with this track is to tie actions in with the words.

We decided to use variations in camerawork by combining three different takes of the track with different styles of presentation.

We have decided to use four different styles of presentaion of the track for each of the three verses and another for the chorus.

We have decided to add a beginning to the video. This is footage of the main vocalists sitting on a park bench with a couple of mates and taking a cigarette from a packet and sparking up. Upon taking the first drag on the cigarette and exhaling the smoke the song begins. Footage here will start at a long shot and then zoom to a meidum shot and then to a close up.

The first verse was initially designated to an outside location, potentially a park of wide space of green for example a village green, where there is not a lot of people to cause distractions but people availiable to be used as extras. During this verse we shall use final cut to insert a sequence of the main vocalists memories - FLASHBACKS.

The three takes of the female vocalist will be a normal very still take of her sitting on a park bench. The second take will be one of her letting herself lose and just going all out on how she feels. Finally the third take is a mix in with her friends either side of her also singing the song.

The second verse is intended to be held in a club with the male and female vocalists bumping into each other upon change of the vocalist and staring at each other for tow lines and then dancing towards the end of the verse. Perhaps a flash back to bench from first verse.

The chorus is the point in the track where the video becomes most lively. The two vocalists with their friends whilsts they all sing and just have fun messing around or dancing. We have not chosen a location for this sequence at this point in time. One idea could potentially be to have the vocalists walking down a street with friends and the camera tracks them.

Between the chorus and third verse there is a instrumental. For this we shall just have all the actors dancing. Then as the instrumentals stop the dancers stop and the final verse begins.

From the third verse to the end of the track all vocalists and friends will be together as two vocalists stand next to each other singing the song whilst the friends all mingle and dance around them. The verse starts slowly and then after the first line it becomes lively.

This is so far what we have come up with but we are sure there are still many more thoughts and ideas that we can still throw into the equation.

N.B We shall remain open to gaining more ideas throughout filiming and if an idea comes up then it shall be used as it may work.

Lyrics

These are the lyrics to Crazy Cool by Flamboyant Bella.

I'm quite aware that smoking kills,
But this nicotine addiction,
Is helping me deal with any stress I'm feeling,
If I get liver failure before I'm 30,
Then I've had a good time,
So I guess its worth it,

I don't need to pop no pills,
The music's where I get my thrills,
When I shake, I shake it like I should,
'Cause baby I rave good.

I ain't got no rules 'cause Im crazy cool,
And I dance like I dance 'cause I got the tools,
Got no rules 'Cause I'm crazy cool,
And I dance like I dance 'Cause I got the tools.

I ain't got no rules 'cause Im crazy cool,
And I dance like I dance 'cause I got the tools,
I'm a crazy fool,
And I do what I do 'cause I like it.

Take some time to breathe,
Pick it up, move your body 'til you're senseless,
When we move, we move relentless,

We do, we do.

I don't need to pop no pills,
The music's where I get my thrills,
When I shake, I shake it like I should,
'Cause baby I rave good.

I ain't got no rules 'cause Im crazy cool,
And I dance like I dance 'cause I got the tools,
I'm a crazy fool,
And I do what I do 'cause I like it

We have chosen Crazy Cool by Flamboyant Bella. This song is of the indie genre. We chose this song because of the instance thoughts of using the lyrics to fit with actions that the actors can do. We also chose it because of the flexibility of locations and effects. Crazy cool instantly hits you as a upbeat song with soul and is similar to the likes of Lily Allen.
